Second EuroSEAS Masterclass 2025 in The Philippines!

The University of the Philippines in cooperation with EuroSEAS, in partnership with UP Office of International Linkages (UP OIL), UP Center of Women’s and Gender Studies (UPCWGS) and led by EuroSEAS board member Prof. Eloisa May P. Hernandez and her team organized a second successful 3-day PhD masterclass in Southeast Asia, at the University of the Philippines!

10 PhD students from Brunei, China, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, The Philippines, UK and USA, participated in this event. They were supervised by 5 professors and senior researchers who were based in, amongst other countries, Singapore, Australia and the Philippines. 
 
The aim of this PhD workshop was to bring together young academics from different disciplines focusing on a diverse range of topics concerning Southeast Asia.  The topics varied from ‘The role of women in community conflicts with palm oil çompanies’, ‘Multilingual practices and the trajectory of language maintenance in the Filipino Diaspora’ to ‘International cooperation in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in case studies in collaboration between the Republic of Korea and Vietnam’.
