One Postdoctoral Fellowship in East Asian History
The Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows” at the University of Heidelberg invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship for the cluster's projects "The Asian Sea: A Transnational Maritime History of the Age of Imperialism, 1850-1918," or for "Medicine and Religion in Premodern East Asia," or for a historical project that explore themes of cultural flow between Europe and Japan. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to be in residence at Heidelberg University from October 2010 for one academic year and will have the opportunity to teach, if so desired.
Successful candidates will have completed a doctoral degree prior to taking up the position. Fluency in English, knowledge of one East Asian language and ideally some command of a second European or Asian language is expected. The annual tax-free stipend (16,000-25,000 euro) with research allowance is based on the regulations of the German Research Foundation.
