The European Association for South East Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) is an international initiative to foster scholarly cooperation within Europe in the field of Southeast Asian studies. The Association was founded in 1992 during a meeting of 19 leading Southeast Asia specialists. Currently chaired by Pietro Masina (University of Naples "L'Orientale"), with a permanent secretariat in Napoli (Italy), EuroSEAS aims to promote Southeast Asian studies in Europe. It intends to facilitate exchanges and cooperation among European based Southeast Asianists working in the fields of human and social sciences, as well as between European and Southeast Asian scholars.EuroSEAS is responsible for the present website, which provides a guide to Southeast Asian studies in European universities, updates on research and educational programmes underway, as well as on the publications of specialists in the different members countries. Every three years, EuroSEAS organises an international conference (Leiden, 1995; Hamburg, 1998; London, 2001; Paris, 2004). These international conferences are held in Europe; they bring together hundreds of specialists of Southeast Asia, from all over the world. The last one taken place in Naples in September 2007.
